In a stunning victory for rodents the world over, Eli the Rat has placed 5th out of more than 4,300 companion animals competing for the chance to be named America's "Best Pet Friend" in The Humane Society of the United States' My Best Pet Friend Photo Contest.
|
And don't forget, Jengo the Rat, also a participant in the HSUS 'My Best Pet Friend Photo Contest', who placed an astonishing 105th, out of over 4,500 companion animals. Truly, this year was given over to exceptional rats and the exceptional humans who care for them!

| In response to the exciting news, Ishmael, Eli's great nephew, held a large press conference on the back porch of the late Eli's home and issued the following statement: |

"I would like to accept all congradulations on behalf of my great uncle, Eli. If he had not gone to the Bridge yet he would be extremely excited to see that his photograph has done so much to promote rats as animal companions. As you all know, this was his major goal in life - it is sad that it was accomplished in its fullest after he died. Thank you all for your votes - myself, and all members of Eli's family, are very excited to share in his fifth place win in this contest. We are celebrating with large numbers of tummy tickles, yogie drops, and (this is just a rumor) we may get REAL ice cream instead of that soy stuff momma eats!" |

In the words of Jengo's whooman:
"Jengo the rat is always awaiting a new adventure around the house and outside. He is always at the door of his cage when I get home, begging to come out and play. He constantly surprises me with his intelligence. He sits on my shoulder when I am feeling down and bruxes to me; his attempt to make me smile." |
