Before BAR became involved, animals were sometimes put down before the owners had a chance to even determine whether or not their pet was there. BAR instituted policies that only animals that were too sick, injured too badly or were dangerous were to be put down. Ann Waters, BAR loses coordinator; animal shelter fights for survival, |

| Today, BAR needs your help to continue providing care for the animals of Bisbee. BAR initially received several grants from various local and national sources, including the Arizona Community Foundation; however, the majority of those funds were intended to help defray start-up costs. BAR does not currently receive enough private funding to stay a viable organization, even with bare-bones operating costs of only $25,000 per year ($15,000 goes for veterinary expenses alone). Even with funding and support from the City of Bisbee, BAR will not be able to provide the same level of service without private donations. | |||
| Of course, if you are on the Eadie's House site, you want to know about Animals of the Smaller Sort, not just dogs and cats! The demand for small animal help in Bisbee is low; however, BAR has adopted out one elderly ferret in distress and several chickens. BAR is rodent-friendly, and, in fact, two of the shelter's staunchest supporters are 'Lord Byron' and 'Moe', two bi-coloured mice!
